Setting Goals

Do you feel stuck? You aren’t seeing improvements and you aren’t motivated to work on yourself? Do you actually know what you want to achieve?

It may seem simple, but setting goals is one aspect of self improvement that often gets overlooked. If you’re wanting to make a change, no matter what aspect of your life, you need to set some clear goals. If you don’t, how will you know when you’ve achieved them? How will you know that you’re on track? Why should you get out of bed in the morning if you don’t have a reason? Setting and keeping goals in the front of your mind helps to give us purpose for our actions. If you feel like you need help with your goals, here are a few simple tips to remember.

1 – Set SMART Goals

Specific – Direct, detailed, meaningful

Measurable – Quantify your progress and success (use numbers)

Attainable – Realistic, and you have the resources you need

Relevant – It aligns with how you want your life to change

Time – You need to put a deadline on the completion of your goal

2 – Write them down!

Once you’ve set a smart goal, you need it written where you will see it. In your diary, calendar, on the bathroom door, phone reminders, everywhere. If you don’t focus on your goal, it will slip away and before you know it your deadline will have passed and you’ve made no progress.

3 – Plan time to work on your goal

Decide how you’re going to reach your goal. What sacrifices will you need to make? How much time will you dedicate to working on this project? It is really important again that you write down any of the steps you decide in a diary or somewhere you will look at. Plan out a time each day, specifically dedicated to working on this goal.

4 – Get Support

If you don’t know how to achieve your goal then what are you doing to figure that out? Get advice from others who have been in your situation, or professionals specifically trained to help, like a coach. It is important that you have the resources and support you need so you can progress as well as possible.
